Car hire in Budva: deposits and what you pay at collection

For a three-day hire, work out two amounts before booking: the cost of the rental and the money you need available when you collect the keys. Even on a small manual car, a refundable deposit can put €100 between the two figures.

Three days in November: a worked example

Budva Rent A Car (rentacarbudva.me) lists a manual Peugeot 208 at €53 a day for a hire of 3–6 days, with a €100 deposit. At that rate, three days’ hire costs €159. If the entire hire charge and deposit are due at collection, you need €259 before any extras. If you meet the terms of the agreement and receive the full deposit back, the rental itself has cost you €159.

In the same price band, an automatic Citroën C4 is €59 a day with a €100 deposit. For three days, that is €177 for the car and €277 to have available at collection. Both examples use published rates. Ask the agency to confirm availability, insurance and the total for your dates.

What does “no deposit” cover?

A different company, Rent A Car Budva (rentacarbudva.com), states that it requires no deposit. Its insurance excludes tyres and glass. Drivers must be over 21 and have held a valid licence for at least two years. Ask for a written daily quote for your dates, collection point and choice of manual or automatic.

Budva Car Hire waives the deposit under its paid Full Coverage Plus package. To compare it with the first car, add the insurance supplement for all three days to the base hire price. Also ask how much you could have to pay if the car is damaged and how to report damage.

What to get in writing before collection

Ask for a single written breakdown of the final price, security deposit, any card hold, how the money is returned or released, the insurance excess and the mileage allowance. The excess is the share of a covered loss you pay under the policy. A card hold temporarily reduces your available balance. If you plan to drive into Croatia, ask for permission to cross the border. At collection, photograph the wheel rims, glass and bodywork with a member of staff and have existing damage entered on the handover form. When you return the car, keep the signed return record and confirmation that any hold has been released.
